The second BarCamp Singapore will be held tomorrow! Will you be attending?
BarCamp Singapore II: Maps and Mobile will be held at the NUS Extension at Park Mall, near Dhoby Ghaut (beside the Fish & Co. Glass House?), from 630pm onwards.
Check out more details over at their wiki page.
Remember to also check out the presentations in the breakout sessions, from companies such as tenCube, widgeo.us and Mobile Sorcery.
Especially for those interested in developing mobile applications, do check out the presentation from Mobile Sorcery.
MoSync from Mobile Sorcery attempts to solve the porting issues faced by mobile application developers by presenting them with a common platform for application development. All application developers then need to do, is to maintain one single code base for their applications (no more keeping track of separate J2Me and Symbian versions) written using MoSync. Combined with an application profile database, MoSync will then be able to deploy the application to both J2ME and Symbian platforms, saving countless hours in contrast to regular porting and deployment.
(Disclaimer: I’m working with Mobile Sorcery.)
See you there!
(Feel free to drop me a comment if you’ll be attending, yup?)

Came across repeal377a.com a little earlier today.
It’s a movement to get the Government
of Singapore to repeal Section 377a of the Penal Code which states
377A : Any male person who, in public or private, commits, or abets the commission of, or procures or attempts to procure the commission by any male person of, any act of gross indecency with another male person, shall be punished with imprisonment for a term which may extend to 2 years.
It’s certainly caused quite a bit of response though, last I checked there were 5791 signatures on the Open Letter to the Prime Minister asking for the Section to be repealed.
It’s quite a sad for Singapore to still maintain laws such as this when the rest of the world is moving forward and being more accepting to alternative cultures. However, many people still worry that such a decriminalisation will lead to the breakdown of the social fabric.
If such acts can be decriminalised for heterosexual couples, why should it remain in force for homosexuals? If the act is between two consenting adults in the privacy of their own room and does not affect anyone else, why should it matter what gender the people are? And yes, why does the section only make it criminal for men?
Read the FAQ for more information, or otherwise sign the open letter.

Enough of second degree live blogging, I’m finally here live at Podcamp Europe 2007 =)
Had a a little trouble finding the venue at first, seeing as the speaker areas were tucked away inside another, larger conference here at the Stockholm Conference Center in Älvsjö.
Managed to catch the end of Sriram’s speech about the blogging culture in Singapore. Okay, not really, but just the Q&A bit. Seemed that the (predominantly Swedish) audience were pretty curious about the blogging culture in Singapore. One point thatI managed to catch was the mention that companies in Singapore didn’t have much of an internet strategy. Sorry Sriram, I have to disagree there.
Quite a number of companies in Singapore actually do have an Internet strategy. They put up websites, they put up web forms, allow users to contact them over email and MSN and Skype.. but then again, a lot of companies (and some government agencies) are still stuck in Web 0.5. Static pages, flashing animated GIF graphics. Urgh.
But more on that later..
Listening now to Daniel Ekstram of ReadSpeaker
Impressive technology by the creators of Festivox, the opensource speech synthesis engine.
Popular webstandard blogs like 465BereaStreet and axbom.se use ReadSpeaker’s technology to covert their blogposts into audio podcasts. Guess audible renditions of blog posts really lend quite a lot to the issue of accessibility. (Speaking of which, Roger Johansson of 465BereaStreet did a very insightful talk at Connection07 in Göteborg earlier this March which discussed web standards and accessibility).
1603:
Now Odd Moe is up talking about how to attract investors to your new media startup.
So what makes a New Media startup?
The team? The business model?
Now he’s asking for business models from the audience members.
Update: Turns out Odd Moe is CEO of Seed Forum, Norway

Oh. Did I mention that Entrepreneur 27 Singapore has started a hack-friendly garage-incubator thingy in Singapore? =)
Check out the coolness here
Says E27, enough with just organising unconferences, it’s time we did something about it.
It’s young, but it’s a step in the right direction. It’s time we got off our asses and did something like this instead of just talking about it.
Know anyone who’d wanna be an advisor to a young bunch of entrepreneurial hackers in the little island of Singapore? Drop me a mail or comment =)
Or better yet.. anyone want to set up a Garage like this in Stockholm?
Details are fuzzy at the moment, but I’ll update as I find out more.
